Nikon, Sony Group and Canon are working on implementing digital signatures in their cameras that will confirm the authenticity and source of origin of images.

The digital signatures will contain information such as date, time, place and photographer's name to protect the image from tampering. The feature is aimed at photojournalists and other professionals. Nikon will introduce it in mirrorless cameras, while Sony and Canon will include it in professional-grade mirrorless and DSLR models. Earlier it was reported that Sony and the Associated Press have completed the second round of testing of image authentication technology. Sony's technology is a machine-generated digital signature that is created inside the camera at the moment the image is captured in the hardware chipset.
